Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Pidgin is a multi-protocol, multi-platform instant messaging client. The product supports numerous protocols such as AIM and ICQ, MSN and Yahoo!. Pidgin allows one user to log into multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. There exists an integer overflow vulnerability in Pidgin instant messaging client. The vulnerability is due to an insufficient checking of file names offered for transfer. A remote authenticated attacker could exploit the vulnerability by offering to send a specially crafted MSNP2P message to the target user. Successful exploitation may allow arbitrary code execution in the context of the currently logged on user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the Pidgin process will terminate abnormally. In case of a more sophisticated attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the Pidgin process. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
