Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Cerulean Studios' Trillian is an instant messaging (IM) client application that can interact with various IM protocols such as MSN, AIM, ICQ, YAHOO, etc. Specifically, AIM clients uses Open System for Communication in Realtime (OSCAR) protocol to talk to the backend servers. In Trillian, communication over OSCAR is mainly handled by plugin aim.dll. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Trillian instant messenger client application. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error when parsing malformed XML tags in AIM messages. This could be exploited by remote attackers by sending malicious message to the target user. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution within the security context of the currently logged on user. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of code. If code execution is successful, the behaviour of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In a case where code execution is unsuccessful, affected product will terminate abnormally. |
