Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Oracle Database Server is an enterprise-level relational database application suite. Oracle Secure Backup is a backup solution allowing for single point of management of data present on network attached storage (NAS) devices and distributed hosts. Oracle Secure Backup is using NDMP protocol to perform backup tasks for all clients. The flaws are due to insufficient input validation when the Oracle Secure Backup processes NDMP requests. Remote unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted requests to the affected interface. Successful exploitation will create a denial of service condition, causing the service to terminate abnormally.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed NDMP requests sent to the affected server.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Oracle Secure Backup NDMP Packet Handling Multiple Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
