Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) is a product used for storing backups and archiving data. A buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.The vulnerability is due to an error in the TSM service that fails to sufficiently validate user supplied values in a message.A remote attacker may exploit this flaw to create a denial of service condition via specially crafted backup message.Successful exploitation will terminate the affected service and may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed backup messages sent to the vulnerable service.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express Backup Heap Corruption protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
