Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is a web browser application that is included as part of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Microsoft Windows Internet (WinINet) application programming interface (API) in Internet Explorer is a component to serve as application interface for Internet protocols, such as FTP, Gopher, and HTTP. WinINet can also be used by the other applications to utilize the supported Internet protocols. There exists a memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The flaw is due to improper validation of reply lines in FTP server responses. By persuading a user to visit a malicious web site, an attacker may execute arbitrary code on the target system with the privileges of the currently logged on user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful the affected application will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current logged on user. |
