Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP OpenView product consists of a suite of network and system management software applications developed by HP. It includes several optional modules and components, such as OpenView Quality Manager, OpenView Performance Insight, OpenView Network Node Manager, etc. A stack buffer overflow exists in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) CGI program ovalarm.exe. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error when processing the Accept-Language HTTP header and the OvAcceptLang cookie value in a crafted HTTP request. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to a target server. In an attack scenario where arbitrary code is injected and executed on the target machine, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intention of the malicious code.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed HTTP requests sent to the vulnerable server.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP OpenView Network Node Manager Accept-Language Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
