Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An information disclosure vulnerability has been reported in the way that Internet Explorer handles certain request headers. The vulnerability is due to an error in Internet Explorer that incorrectly parses a specially crafted request header, allowing a violation of the same origin policy. To trigger this issue, an attacker may create a malicious web page and persuade a user to view it. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will allow an attacker to view the content in another browser window in another domain or Internet Explorer zone.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer Request Header Cross-Domain Information Disclosure (MS08-031) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
