Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description WorldClient is a program listening on TCP/3000 and executing the CGI program Form2Raw, which processes HTTP requests. The vulnerable products do not require any user credentials to access the program. The specially crafted content will be passed unchecked to the vulnerable server program, MDaemon. MDaemon/WorldClient mail server may be prone to a buffer overflow vulnerability when handling messages with a certain long field. This issue may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the vulnerable software. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the target will terminate abnormally, causing a denial of service. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intended purpose of the injected code.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the MDaemon Raw Message Handler Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Application Servers Protection Violation.
