Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Portable Network Graphics (PNG) specification defines a datastream and an associated file format that provides a lossless, portable, image compression. libpng is a open source implementation of the PNG specification. A vulnerability exists in the way libpng handles the transparency chunk of a PNG image. A logic error in the process makes it possible to bypass a length check in the validation process. This error can cause a memory buffer on the stack to be overflowed. It is possible to exploit this vulnerability is such a way as to gain control of the process and execute injected code. In a simple attack case, when a vulnerable product opens the specially crafted PNG file, it will terminate from a memory access violation, creating a denial of service condition. In the case of a successful code execution, the actual behavior will depend on the injected code.
