Vulnerability Description | CNS Network Registrar is a product suite developed by Cisco Systems that implements DNS, DHCP, and TFTP services for medium to large IP-based networks. The product suite provides a management architecture that allow for the configuration and management of one or more clusters of CNS Network Registrar devices. A vulnerability exists the way Cisco CNS Network Registrar handles network messages. The lock manager process, a component of the vulnerable product, will terminate upon receiving a specially crafted sequence of packets. This termination of this process will cause complete failure of the Central Configuration Management (CCM) server. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to create a denial of service condition of the management services. CNS Network Registrar lock manager process will terminate upon receiving the specially crafted sequence of packets. This may also terminate the Central Configuration Management (CCM) server. The loss of the lock manager will prevent CCM from managing the various CNS components: DNS, DHCP , TFTP and configuration information such as address space, zones, user administration, and so on. An administrator must restart the server agent for normal operations to resume. |
