Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | There is a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the way that RealPlayer and RealOne Player handle input data. There are certain RealAudio specific text-based file types (namely .RMP, .RAM, .SMIL, .RT, .RP) that are used to facilitate the loading of RealAudio media files. A vulnerability exists in the way RealNetworks' RealPlayer products handle the parsing of URLs. A heap-based buffer overflow can occur when parsing a URL with a large number of period characters. Using a specially crafted URL, an attacker can exploit this vulnerability to remotely execute arbitrary code. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the vulnerable RealPlayer client will terminate upon parsing the malformed URL, requiring that the RealAudio client be restarted to continue operation. In case of an attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intended purpose of the injected code. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
