Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Windows Media Player supports rendering of the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) images. The PNG specification defines a file format that provides a lossless, portable, image compression. Windows Media Player 9 contains a core library wmp.dll for handling the decoding of PNG image files. A vulnerability exists in Windows Media Player PNG processing component. The vulnerability exists due to failure of the application to properly parse fields in the PNG image. A remote attacker can exploit the vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a malicious media file that contains a reference to a malicious PNG, causing denial of service or execution of arbitrary code with the security context of the currently logged in user. |
