Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) is a transaction infrastructure for distributed systems. It is implemented on the Windows platform as a service. The MSDTC facilitates the interactions between independent programs in a distributed system. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) component of Microsoft Windows. The flaw exists in the code that processes Transaction Internet Protocol (TIP) responses from remote servers. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to terminate the DTC service. In a successful attack case, the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) service terminates. All MSDTC dependent services and applications are affected as well.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Controller Denial of Service (MS05-051) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
