Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Tagged Image File Format, TIFF, is a file format used primarily for storing digital images, including photographs and line art. TIFF is a popular format for high colour depth images, along with JPEG and PNG. It is widely supported by applications that handle images, such as browsers and also image manipulation and office products such as GIMP and Adobe Photoshop. An integer overflow vulnerability exists in LibTIFF TIFF file processing library. The vulnerability is result of the lack of proper boundary checking in certain function, which is responsible for parsing and fetching data from TIFF files. By enticing a user to open a craft TIFF file, an attacker may leverage the vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is unsuccessful, the application which uses the vulnerable library will terminate. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the application will depend on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code injected will run in the security context of the currently logged in user. |
