Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | A Wiki is generally referred to a collaborative online system that allows many users to easily contribute content by creating web pages that have a common look and feel and that may be changed and revised at any time. MediaWiki is a popular implementation of the Wiki system. It uses a number of PHP scripts and a database as a back-end to accomplish this task. In general, users contribute content by creating or modifying a simplified version of HTML mark-up of a page, which is then parsed by the MediaWiki parser to generate real HTML, including mark-up, inter-page links, and so on. A vulnerability exists in the parser of the MediaWiki product. The flaw exists due to an insufficient sanitization of the user input. Exploitation of this flaw may allow a malicious user to inject script and HTML code into a page, thereby gaining the execution context of the page on a target user's browser. An attack exploiting this vulnerability will result in arbitrary Script code being executed on a target user's browser. The behavior of the target is dependent on the intented purpose of the malicious code. The execution of the injected script requires that the browser allows script execution from the domain that the malicious page resides on. Any such code execution will be within the security privileges allowed for that domain by the target browser. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
