Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | GnuPG is an open source implementation of the OpenPGP standard. The OpenPGP standard, as defined in RFC 2440, contains information about the message-exchange packet formats used to provide encryption, decryption, signing, and key management functions. Many applications, especially email programs, utilize GnuPG to ensure the confidentiality and integrity during message exchange. There exists an integer overflow vulnerability in the GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) product. The problem is caused by an incorrect handling of the user supplied data. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to crash a vulnerable application or execute arbitrary code in the security context of the currently running process. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack where code injection results is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
