Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Symantec VERITAS NetBackup Server. The flaw is caused by incorrect processing of specially crafted BPCD messages. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code on the vulnerable system within the security context of the affected service, normally System. If an attack case where code injection is unsuccessful, the current bpcd.exe process will terminate. The network listener bpinetd process is not affected, and thus, the service continues to operate normally. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the System account. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
