Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description There exists a vulnerability in Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup products. The flaw is due to a design weakness in the processing of RPC requests sent to the Tape Engine service. A remote unauthenticated attacker may leverage this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code on the target host with System level privileges. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, exceptions might be triggered. However, the affected service does not generally terminate due to the pre-defined exception handler. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the service process. On Windows systems, the affected service is running with System privileges, by default configuration.
