Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops provides backup and data recovery for remote, mobile and desktop computers. In general, a backup system is comprised of a server and multiple clients, also known as agents. The server establishes, organizes, and controls all of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops client user accounts. It also processes all data received from client downloads into individual client databases and archives. The server can restore user files and generate reports detailing installed hardware, software, and data files on each client with a valid user account on the server. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops. The flaw is due to an insufficient checks of user supplied data inside requests sent to the backup server. A remote unauthenticated attacker may leverage this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code on the target host with System level privileges. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected service will terminate unexpectedly. This will create a denial of service condition of the affected service only. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the running process, normally System. |
