Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Oracle Database Server is an enterprise-level relational database application suite. To extend the functionality of the Oracle Database Server, extra packages of related program objects are provided in order to better manage the data. The included stored procedures and functions, or subprograms, are called by name and optionally passed a set of parameters. They are essentially a set of SQL statements that are stored on the server-side, usually as precompiled SQL statements. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Oracle Database Server. The flaw is due to a boundary error within certain package of the product. A remote authenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending an overly long input to the affected package and cause a stack-based buffer overflow. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected service may terminate upon processing of the malicious SQL statement. If the service is not configured to restart automatically, the services will be unavailable until the process is restarted manually. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the service process. On Windows systems, the affected service is running with System privileges, in default configuration.
