Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Yahoo! Messenger is an instant messaging communicating application developed by Yahoo! Inc. One of the features that Yahoo! Messenger provides is the ability to send and receive video content. The Yahoo! Webcam ActiveX controls shipped with Yahoo! Messenger is used to handle the video data in a conference. There exist two stack buffer overflow vulnerabilities in Yahoo! Messenger. The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors within the Webcam ActiveX control component of Yahoo! Messenger. A remote attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities by enticing the target user to open a malicious web page. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
