Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Publisher is an application that allows users to design, layout and format documents destined to be published in print, on the web, and other formats. Microsoft Publisher 2007 is included with Microsoft Office 2007, while other versions of the application are installed separately. The file extension used by Microsoft Publisher files is .PUB. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft Publisher 2007. The vulnerability is due to inadequately clearing out memory resources when writing application data from disk to memory. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a crafted Publisher file, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of code. If code execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, Publisher will terminate resulting in the loss of any unsaved data from the current session. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
