Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Microsoft Agent ActiveX control, exposes a set of methods and properties that can be used for scripting in HTML pages. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Windows Agent application. The flaw is due to wrongfully copying an overly large string to a fixed-size stack buffer within the code of agentdpv.dll Dynamic Link Library. By persuading the target user to open a malicious web page, an attacker may execute arbitrary code on the target system within the privileges of the currently logged on user. Note that although this vulnerability is exploited normally through a browser, e.g. Internet Explorer, the affected application is the Microsoft Agent application. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user.
