Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Kodak Image Viewer is the picture viewer shipped with Microsoft Windows. It is capable of handling several types of popular graphic document format such as BMP, JPEG, PCX, GIF, TIFF. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Windows Kodak Image Viewer. The vulnerability is due to an improper parsing of specially crafted image files, such as TIFF files. An attacker can exploit the vulnerability by constructing a specially crafted image and enticing a victim to open the malicious image with an affected version of product. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-in user. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any injected code will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In case of an attack where code execution is unsuccessful, the vulnerable application will terminate unexpectedly. The vulnerable applications include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and the Windows picture and fax viewer are affected as well. Note that the vulnerability may be triggered in the Windows Explorer by either attempting to get the file properties, or preview of the file in form of thumbnails or web view folders. |
