Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description IBM Lotus Domino Web Access is a Web browser-based client platform that provides functionality similar to that of IBM Lotus Notes. With Lotus Domino Web Access, the user can send encrypted rich text e-mails, schedule meetings, manage tasks, collaborate with colleagues and so on. There exists a vulnerability in IBM Lotus Domino that could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error while handling malformed data passed to certain Web Access ActiveX controls. A remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability via a crafted web page. In order to exploit the vulnerability, the attacker needs to entice the target user to visit a malicious web page. Successful exploitation would cause memory corruption that may lead to arbitrary code execution in the security context of the logged in user, or terminate the application resulting in a denial of service condition.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM Lotus Domino Web Access ActiveX Controls Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
