Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Publisher is an application that allows users to design, layout, and format documents destined to be published in print, on the web, and various other formats. Microsoft Publisher is released as part of Microsoft Office as well as stand-alone application. Microsoft Publisher saves document with file extension ".pub" by default. There exists a memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Office Publisher. The vulnerability is due to lack of validation when processing user-supplied data. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a crafted PUB file, potentially allowing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, Microsoft Publisher will terminate, resulting in the loss of any unsaved data from the current session. |
