Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Openwsman is an implementation of Web Services Management (WS-Management) specification. It uses the WS-Management protocol, which is a SOAP-based protocol using HTTP for exchange of information related to management of devices and applications in a platform independent manner. There exists a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in Openwsman. The flaw is due to an improper processing of the HTTP basic authentication header. Remote attackers could exploit this vulnerability by sending HTTP requests with specially crafted header value. Successful exploitation would allow for arbitrary code injection and execution with the privileges of the security context of the current server process. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current server process. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected service can terminate abnormally. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
