Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The AppStream Client is part of a Software Virtualization Solution (SVS) which allows streaming of virtual applications to users in an enterprise environment using the AppStream Server. It provides centralized delivery and licensing mechanism which allows controlled access to any Windows Application. Virtual applications in the form of packages, created using the Streaming Composer can be provisioned to individual users and groups. There exists a remote code execution vulnerability in Symantec AppStream Client. The vulnerability is due to lack of proper checks to validate if the server to which the client connects is valid and authorized or not. Remote unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by masquerading as a valid server and enticing a client to open a crafted HTML file. Successful exploitation will lead to arbitrary files being downloaded and executed within the context of the client. The behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the code executed. There are cases in which certain traffic, although not intended for malicious use, is very unsafe, since it may transfer shellcode which is undetectable by IPS. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
