Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Apple's QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying picture files as well as numerous audio/video formats. A QuickTime movie file consists of Metadata and Atoms. The Metadata stores the description of the media content while Atoms are the data units of media content. There exists a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple QuickTime. The vulnerability is due to lack of boundary checks while processing certain atoms embedded in QuickTime movie files. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to open a crafted QuickTime movie file. Successful exploitation may lead to arbitrary code execution in the security context of the logged in user. In case of an attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected Apple QuickTime process will terminate abnormally. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
