Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Apple iTunes is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying picture files. When iTunes is installed, it registers itself with the host Operating System as a protocol handler for several application URL schemes. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Apple iTunes. The vulnerability is due to the way of Apple iTunes processes URLs. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to open a crafted website. Successful exploitation may lead to arbitrary code execution in the security context of the logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected Apple iTunes process will terminate abnormally.
