Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Adobe develops products for creating, distributing, and viewing Portable Document Format (PDF) documents. Adobe Reader is a viewer application that allows for reading and the printing of PDF documents. Adobe Acrobat provides PDF authoring functionality in addition to those of viewing. In addition to these applications, Adobe also provides a plugin for web browsers to parse PDF documents. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader Plugin. The vulnerability is due to an error when handling certain COM objects. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to visit a specially crafted web page. Exploitation of the vulnerability can result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the application. In a sophisticated attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The injected code, in this case, would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. |
