Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | HP OpenView Storage Data Protector is a backup solution tailored for enterprise and distributed environments. The Data Protector environment consists of a Cell Manager, backup agents, and backup device servers. The Cell Manager is the central point from which backup agents and device servers are administered, and backup and restore operations are controlled. A heap buffer overflow vulnerability exists in HP OpenView Data Protector Cell Manager. The flaw is due to an integer overflow while processing crafted packets received on port 1530/TCP. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending maliciously crafted packets to the affected service. In an attack scenario, where arbitrary code is injected and executed on the target machine, the behaviour of the target is dependent on the logic of the malicious code. Successful exploitation could result in execution of arbitrary code within the security context of the service, which is usually SYSTEM. An unsuccessful attack may cause the target service to abnormally terminate. |
