Vulnerability Description | Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express) is an online communication tool for use with Windows. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way that Windows Mail Client handles specially crafted mail responses. The vulnerability is caused when a common library used by Outlook Express and Windows Mail insufficiently validates network data before using that data to calculate the necessary size of a buffer. An attacker may exploit this issue via a specially crafted POP3 or IMAP response. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |
This protection will detect and block malformed POP3 responses.
