Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP OpenView product consists of a suite of network and system management software applications developed by HP. It includes several optional modules and components, such as OpenView Quality Manager, OpenView Performance Insight, and OpenView Network Node Manager. A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM). The vulnerability is due to a boundary error in the webappmon.exe CGI application when processing the OvJavaLocale cookie variable sent in a crafted HTTP request. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to a target server, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the webappmon.exe process.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP OpenView Network Node Manager OvJavaLocale Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
