Vulnerability Description | The SMB Protocol is a network file sharing protocol that is implemented in Microsoft Windows. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Windows Server Message Block (SMB) implementation. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation by the Microsoft SMB Protocol software of certain fields in SMB packets. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by constructing a specially crafted SMB packet and sending it to a target server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow an attacker to take complete control of the affected system. |
This protection will detect and block malformed SMB requests attempting to exploit this vulnerability.
