Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been discovered in the way that Microsoft Office parses specially crafted FlashPix image files. FlashPix is a bitmapped computer graphics file format where the image is saved in more than one resolution. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Office FlashPix Image Converter that fails to properly parse data in FlashPix image files. A remote attacker may trigger this issue by convincing a user to open an Office document containing a specially crafted FlashPix image file. By persuading a user to open the malformed FPX file, an attacker could take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed FPX files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Graphics Filters FlashPix Converter Heap Corruption (MS10-105) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
