Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Internet Connection Signup Wizard, a component of Microsoft Windows, enables users to configure a connection on a new computer, or to use an existing Internet service account that they had on a previous computer. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way that the Internet Connection Signup Wizard handles the loading of DLL files. The vulnerability is caused when the Internet Connection Signup Wizard improperly restricts the path used for loading external libraries. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by convincing a user to open a a .ins or .isp file that is located in the same network directory as a specially crafted dynamic link library (DLL) file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of suspicious DLL files over CIFS.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Internet Connection Signup Wizard Insecure DLL Loading (MS10-097) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
