Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description CA ARCserve Backup products offer data protection for distributed servers, clients, databases and applications. They provide centralized control over a series of distributed operations including backup and restore, data migration, and threat management. A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in CA XOsoft multiple products. The vulnerability is due to an insufficient boundary checking when handling certain HTTP requests sent to the ws_man.exe process. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a malicious HTTP request to a target server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system and may cause the vulnerable application may terminate abnormally.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malicious HTTP request sent to the vulnerable server.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the CA XOsoft Multiple Products xosoapapi.asmx Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Application Servers Protection Violation.
