Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP OpenView product consists of a suite of network and system management software applications developed by HP. It includes several optional modules and components, such as OpenView Quality Manager, OpenView Performance Insight, and OpenView Network Node Manager. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM). The vulnerability is due to a format string error in ovet_demandpoll.exe when processing certain variable sent in a crafted HTTP POST request. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by sending a crafted HTTP request to a target server, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the ovet_demandpoll.exe process.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to access the HP OpenView Node Manager with malformed arguments in a POST request.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP OpenView Network Node Manager ovet_demandpoll.exe Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
