Vulnerability Description | A heap buffer overflow vulnerability has been discovered in Microsoft Windows Fax Services. The Windows Fax Service is a component that allows a Windows system to act as a Fax server. One of the tools within this fax suite is the Fax Console, which allows a user to monitor the sending and receiving of faxes. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on a target system. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation by the Windows Fax Services of a drawing object data while parsing Microsoft Fax cover page files. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by enticing the target user to open a specially crafted Fax cover page file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in execution of arbitrary code on the target system, and may terminate the affected application abnormally. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Microsoft Fax cover page files over HTTP.
