Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is a collection of components that make it easy for programs to access databases and then to manipulate the data within them. MDAC provides a consolidated set of functions for working with different kinds of data sources in a consistent manner The vulnerability is due to an error in the Microsoft Data Access Components that fail to correctly allocate memory when handling internal data structures. A remote attacker could leverage this issue by hosting a specially crafted Web site that is designed to exploit this vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the Web site. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Data Access Components CacheSize Memory Corruption (MS11-002) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
