Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description WebKit is a development toolkit which allows third party developers to build applications that use Internet technologies such as HTML, HTTP, and others. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to open a maliciously crafted HTML, which may allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system. A memory corruption vulnerability exists in Webkit, the HTML rendering engine used in Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome web browser. The vulnerability is due to a memory corruption during the rendering of HTML object outlines. To trigger this issue, an attacker may create a malicious web page and persuade a user to view it. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may crash the browser and could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Apple Safari and Google Chrome Webkit Object Outline Memory Corruption protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
