Vulnerability Description | Adobe Reader and Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's core technology, the Portable Document Format (PDF), a format that has become the de facto standard in the electronic document exchange. A memory corruption vulnerability has been reported in Adobe Reader and Acrobat. The vulnerability is due to a parsing input validation error in Adobe Reader. When decompressing CCITT encoded streams, Adobe Reader can be tricked into a heap overflow by manipulating the image data to be decompressed. A remote attacker could trigger this issue via a specially crafted PDF file. Successful exploitation will create a denial of service condition, causing the application to become non-responsive, and may allow execution of arbitrary code once a malicious file is loaded on a vulnerable system. |
This protection detects and blocks the transferring of specially crafted PDF files over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
