Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Adobe Shockwave Player. The vulnerability is due to a mishandling of the Chunk Size field value. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability by persuading a target user to open a specially crafted DIR or DCR file with a vulnerable product. Successful exploitation would cause a buffer overflow that may lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged in user, or may terminate the application resulting in a Denial of Service condition.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of crafted DIR or DCR files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Adobe Shockwave Director File KEY Chunk Parsing Buffer Overflow (APSB11-17) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
