Vulnerability Description | Two directory traversal vulnerabilities have been reported in Quest Software's Big Brother. Big Brother is a network monitoring software, which enables administrators to monitor their organization's network activity. These vulnerabilities exist due to improper input validation in the application when handling certain requests. A remote attacker can trigger these flaws by first connecting and then delivering malicious packets to an affected server. In a successful attack scenario, an attacker may be able to delete or overwrite files from the target system. File deletion may enable him to cause data loss, possibly resulting in a denial of service condition. By overwriting executable system files, the attacker may be able to leverage these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code on the affected system. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer such malicious packets to the server.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
