Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A code execution vulnerability has been reported in RealNetworks RealPlayer. The vulnerability is due to insufficient bounds checking while parsing .qcp files. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to open a specially crafted .qcp file with an affected version of RealPlayer. Successful exploitation may lead to arbitrary code execution in the security context of the logged in user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malicious .qcp files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the RealNetworks RealPlayer QCP Parsing Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Media Player Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  RealNetworks RealPlayer QCP parsing buffer overflow
