Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Un4seen XMPlay. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error while parsing specially crafted M3U files. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a malicious playlist (M3U) file. Successful exploitation would allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on an affected system, in the security context of the logged in user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer malicious M3U files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Un4seen XMPlay Playlist File Name Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  Un4seen XMPlay playlist file name buffer overflow
