Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An information disclosure vulnerability has been reported in Internet Explorer (IE). The vulnerability is due to an error in the Internet Explorer XSS filter which incorrectly allows attackers to read content from different domains through trial and error attacks. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing target users to view a web site containing a malicious JavaScript code, with an affected version of IE. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to access and view user information from a different domain or IE zone than his own.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to open a specially crafted web page.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer XSS Filter JavaScript Information Disclosure (MS11-099) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
