Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Symantec IM Manager is a software-based proxy to secure, manage, and log IM messages for enterprise and public IM protocols. It provides real-time threat protection against IM viruses, worms, and other types of attacks delivered through IM messages. An SQL injection vulnerability has been reported in Symantec IM Manager. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation in the Administrator Interface. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing an authenticated user to open a crafted web page. Successful exploitation will allow an attacker to execute SQL code on the underlying database of IM Manager.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to open URL links containing a malicious code.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Symantec IM Manager Administrator Interface SQL injection protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
