Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability is due to improper handling of specially crafted media files by DirectShow filters. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to open a web page containing a specially crafted media file. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to run arbitrary code in the context of the current user.

Protection Overview

IPS will detect and block attempts to open specially crafted media files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows DirectShow Filters Remote Code Execution (MS12-004) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
